Kapa haka 

It was 8:15 as I rushed through the school gates, I ran through the hall and grabbed my bodic(Kapa Haka Dress) to get changed into.I plucked a feather from the pile and politely asked my friend to place it into my hair/half up, half down. Rushing to get my moko I realized that I would be first in line as I was the only one there. 

  It definitely was a disappointment that parents could not come and watch us according to level two but there still able to see us on line, we are videoing. Once the bell rang we headed into class before heading to the hall. It was thirty minutes before the actual kapa haka started but it gave us a good amount of time to talk to the people next to us. I had my friend Maggie next to me, which was cool.

Then a man started setting up a camera on the wire, he was the recorder. the next thing that happened was him saying go and us heading into out first words of the song,U TAINA.Once that was finished the other songs took place.And then we were done.

Kapa haka was great this year, and we will even have a bigger audience. But then we were going to see a green team play so we had to get unchanged.And that was how kapa haka was for me.                                                                                                                                  

THE FLOOD!!!

I wrote a narrative about the flood that happened in Gisborne. Even though it is not finished this I would Like for you to see it.

Dawn was breaking, I ran downstairs and switched on the T.V.

I was about to press the little green button when...

A deafening sound started rattling the windows. I sprinted to the curtains and yanked them open.

When I saw the Appearance I completely forgot about the T.V. Thundering down was a huge downpour, Each drop made the water level rise even more. Making the balls float around the soaking wet lawn lawn like bouys.

Just then I heard a loud crash, My other two triplets Ran out from our room, We decided that we would go investigate the crash we had just heard. 

   That is the end of it for now.I really hoped you enjoyed it and by the way it was made up.

MLH Speeches contest

MLH Speech contest!!!

It is getting closer. So close I could almost smell victory, And when I got in to the judging I was sure they were going to pick me to be in the finals. Then they would give me first, second and third.

Hi, I'm Bridie, And just to say I have been listening to someone say that over and over as soon as speeches got put out there as a challenge. I am not one of those people who Brags and is selfish. I am more one of those people who Celebrates people when they win.

I am so excited for MLH speeches this year. We only got Three weeks to plan, write and practise though, so mine is definitely not the best. What I like to keep in mind is that a lot of people are not comfortable sharing in front of 61 kids and two teachers so I like to cheer them on and make them believe that everyone is there to comfort them when they need help.

I hope that from this if you are getting near speeches when you see someone that has trouble sharing or gets stuck on one thing cheer them on and give them comfort so they believe in themselves to.

Two weeks ago my teacher decided enough was enough.If the year 6s got to do something fun why shouldn't we.So we did  just that.know here is the story of no year sixes for basically a week.

PLANNING THE SMOOTHIES

This week we have been making a recipe book of all our smoothie recipes.t has been fun and we did all the work by hand.Here are some of the resources we used.

1. coloured paper
2. pencil
3. ruler
4. rubber
5. pencil sharpener  
6. something to hold the paper together

Then all you have to do is  a design of what you are going to make and then you think about what you are going to write and craft it on the paper.That is all you need to do.

MAKING THE SMOOTHIE

Drop.plop,mix & fix I said in my head as we started creating.I hope this is going to be a hit because I am Going to be in a lot of nerves for nothing if it tastes disgusting.But you no what,I lost my nerves and in the end I was fine.  That is how you create a perfect smoothie.Thanks For Reading

Athletics for the athletes

 ATHLETICS For the ATHLETES

Whizz!!! Juniors were sprinting towards the finish line. As they ran past I saw my best friend's little sister neck to neck with another kid, Possibly, Her best friend.  Amelia was in the lead but  then when the finish line came into sight the girl overtook her and flung herself over the finish line. I was happy for her but I also felt a surge of sadness for Amelia, Ecleast she was 2nd. 

While that was all taking place the next group of kids were lining up and getting sorted into rows of 6, I think. Meanwhile My other best friend, Millie was shouting, AMELIA CAME SECOND,AMELIA CAME SECOND!!!  I was going to say something but... At exactly  the  same time the starter clap went of So all my Attention was drawn to the starting of the runners. I carefully watched as on person overtook the first one and then the one that was coming third passed both of them and so on. Soon there was on big human clash.

As soon as the last group had finished running I looked at koka Leah  so she could announce what was happening  and only then I noticed what she was wearing, A bright colourful helicopter hat. Another teacher was wearing the same as well. I thought that the hat was pretty cool. It actually made me feel excited for my turn doing all the things such as high jump, long jump, sprints and ball throw. 

 

When all the athletics was done I decided that I would pack up my stuff and go put my bag on my hook.I  walked of telling people how well I did and how good my results were in total , I was proud that I tried my best and I couldn't have got better results.

L2 Strand

 L2 Strand 

Last week I had L2 strand which basically means math. Just a lot easier to me and my friend  Kyla-Rose. Last week we were learning how to read all kinds of different charts. As an example a graphic chart, Line chart, Bar graph. But the one we were learning about in group was line chart. The line graph we learnt about was about a gala and a boy had to count all the money.

Our mara plan is something we are making in our garden, You would already know that if you were maori, Not that you should be ashamed!!! Sorry, over excited.Anyway, So our Mara plan is going like this.By the way my flower is the worst out of them all.And by the way on the east side is the watermelon,on the bottom is beetroot,on west hand side there is sunflowers and up top is cherry tomatoes,there seeds are really small. 

I hope this inspired you to make your own mara and grow some fruit and veggies, also flowers.

Covid 19

COVID 19

As you probably know covid 19 is at stake, and when it is people need to be getting serious. I heard that the prime minister or government of England went around saying that covid wasn't real and that people needed to stop stressing about it. The next minute he was going around shaking peoples hands and the next thing we know he is lying in hospital, with covid. He very nearly died. From then on said we need to get serious about it and from that day he still goes around but instead waves at people.

Covid is a big deal so I insist that you listen to the prime minister of your country and follow all the rules that have been set for you.You don't want to have covid 19 floating around the country,house,school or even the place that you work at.As you know we have things set for you and your country to reunite against covid 19.And to stop it you can just do the basic things like signing in to the covid tracer and wearing a covid mask in the supermarket.These are some of the things to stop covid 19.

Story starters

 IN THE DEEP DARK WOOD

This is a poem about the deepest, darkest, spookiest wood that ever lived.Well,It's not exactly spooky but it is about a boy who dared to go in and adventure the Deep,dark wood.

The other day,

The other day, 

The other day I was striving in my quickwrite, and was hoping that it was good enough for  the teacher.  In fact, I was even hoping that the teacher would like the maori sentence  I put in.

My topic,or in other words ss(story starter)was Toby new this was a bad idea.  Yes ,maybe it was a little edgy but I like it.  But I've also got a pointer, My next sentence was picking up the phone and answering it, But  If he knew it was a bad idea ,why did he do it.  He must have some common sense.

Well,I must say the rest of my story apart from that little detail was fine,  So I guess that means I achieved my goal.  The teacher read my  story starter and and said it was so good she read it to the whole class,Also Kyla-Rose and I got the maori certificate for the week so this has been the best day ever.

Today we had writing and we were learning about were commas should go.   The teacher gave us a sheet that had sentences on it.  At first I didn't know  what it was for but  then  she started to explain .   I could tell other people didn't know what it was for either but within seconds everyone was furiously working away. 

Within seconds I had gotten the hang of it and was working away like mad.I had finally finished and only a few other people had finished.  Woohoo!  I had started after but had actually finished before some people.

Anyway I'll give you two examples of were a comma should go.

The Olympics

The Olympics

 I don't know bout you, but lately I've been watching the Olympics on T.V  And  So far it is Incredible.   I am cheering for NZ and my favorite athlete ELLA WILLIAMS.  She is amazing and you will hear a bit more about her in the next paragraph.

Ella williams:

Ella williams is a surfer.  She was born on the 13 of january 1995 .She is 26 and her hometown is or was Whangamata.  Her first ever Olympics was in 2020/2021.  Her achievement was to be world champion surfer.

Mascots

The mascots Of the olympics are Miratowa and Someity .  Someity is the one that is mascot for the paralympics , Miratowa is the mascot that represents the opposite to the paralympics .  Together they make a great team.

The olympics is an event that only happens every four years. So, make sure every time the event comes round you turn on the t.v and watch the  Olympics.  Cheer for whatever country you live in and Most of all, try you hardest to be the one of the people in the   Olympics.

Rugby balls

Today I will be showing you my poem about rugby balls.It is what we did this morning at p.e.  Room one played with the basketball when we played with the rugby.  Anyway, I hope you enjoy my post about  balls.

Whizz!  A spinning spiral spinning round and round.  Not even near to touching the ground.

Flys through the air, although as heavy as a rock.It's smooth on the bottom and smooth on the top.

Slips through your hands not making a dent.  You need to make sure to keep your arms a little bit bent.

The little ball,  flies through the air.  Setting of a tiny FLARE.

Rugby  balls do not bounce.  Instead they sort of have more of a pounce.

They are not flat edged.  That is what I always said.

 If you are playing rugby you need to make it spin.  Make sure you you keep a smile on your chin.

Do not let it land in a hedge.There are the rules that I pledge.

Math Number El3 2021

Maths Number El3 2021

Today is the 26.5.2021.And I am writing a blog post about something that happened today.  It is the number group we did .It has all of the work I want to do all in one workshop.Crazy cool,Right.  So I will be telling you a little bit of the things that we did.

First of all I wanted to tell you about The numbers we did.   Seeing if both the numbers that we had to write equaled the same answer.  And if you don't believe me just skim read all the way down to the bottom and You will see a photo to prove that I did it.  I feel like it ids a pretty good sheet.

B grade

B Grade

B GRADE  is one of my sports for the year.It is a festival that we practise for only every two years.I personally put myself in B grade this year because I am personally better than the lower grade,Called C grade.

In  The Hall we do B grade for all of lunch time,Practising for the coming event  called the gym festival. In it there is the vault,beam,bar and you can't forget the floor routine. I have the rhythmic gym thing that I have to go to because It is a gym competition so I have to do it so I get it in my head.

I hope my brothers and sisters get to do it because it is a great opportunity to try something new and experience what it is like , they only dot it every so often. If they do though good for them.I an talking about  b grade and rhythmical by the way.

 

 The big beach cleanup!!!

Today I am writing a blog post about something that happened a few days ago.  It is about the big beach cleanup.

 I hope that you enjoy my blog post.

It all started when the teacher was  talking and and asked us to get into a group of three.  I had some people in mind but then some other girls walked up and asked me to be in their team.  I didn't want to be rude so I said yes.  I wasn't in a group anyway.

We went outside to collect a bucket, but some other people bet us to them, so we asked the teacher if she had any other buckets.  She only had a worm bucket,  but I didn't complain.  We got in two lines and then headed for the beach.  We started of with a little pile of rubbish but then our pile started to grow.  My friend Dune found a post that said Dune restoration and said she was famous. We had a little giggle and then kept on moving. 

By the time we got to the surf club it was about brainfood time.  Everyone was tired from walking and also a little hungry,the teacher saw we were because we were all puffing for breath.  She gave us a rest for ten minutes.  Then we had to keep going.

We picked up 202 pieces of glass but then sadly had to wrap it up for the day. I was sad and I could tell my group was too.

 This year we have been visiting to the places in our pepeha.  We have been learning the stories that fit In with Hamanatua,Maungarua and Te Poho O Rawiri.

Hamanatua

Hamanatua is the stream in our pepeha.We left school to head to Hamanatua about 10.00.It was not that tiring but other kids thought it was pretty exhausting. We had brain food at the beach and stayed in the rusty shelter under the lookout.We squeezed through a gap in the wall because the part at the front was too tall to climb up. That is the Hamanatua trip.

Maungarua

Next, we walked up Maungarua.Yes it was tiring and my legs were aching like crazy. My shoes were too small and they were squeezing my toes till they started to get blisters. I didn't want to walk all the way to Maungarua and up it.When we got to the Maungarua, I immediately started too trudge up the mountain. We got up the mountain and the view was amazing!  But trust me, you do not want to walk up that hill.  You'd be toasted no matter the weather. Now, that is the story of walking up Maungaroa.                                                                                          

Moving On To Te Poho O Rawiri

 In week three we rode the bus to te poho o rawiri.We had to wait in the hot sun on the grass for a while before the guardians of te poho o rawiri welcomed us in.She told us some stories of the olden days when her grandmother was alive and did the role she did. ZShe taught us some songs, and that was te poho o rawiri.

What is a pepeha

A pepeha is a group of things your family is close too. The main parts of a pepeha is the mountain,river and in New Zealand your marea. Other things in a pepeha are things like your Mum and  Dad's name, last name and where in the world you live or come from.
